How I Will Apply Foley Sounds To My Short Film-Planning

 The Importance of Foley Sounds:

Foley sounds is one of the most important parts of the sound design in my groups short film. Foley is the process of recreating everyday sounds and then adding it to our short film during post-production. Foley sounds is what helps make the scenes feel more realistic and helps the audience feel more connected to those specific scenes. With these types of sounds being added to my film it will make the dropping of a pill, car door closing, or footsteps feel more clearer and more purposeful.

Planning Foley Sounds For Characters:

When planning the foley sounds for my film, I want to think about how each character moves and interact with their environment. I was think that Lena, Claire, and Micheal will each have their own times when small sounds will help enhance their actions. For Micheal when he is picking up the phone or dropping the pill in drink can have foley sounds added for the actions to feel more real. In Claire scenes foley sound could be used for clothing movements. Lena's footsteps when she walks aways to the bathroom to match the surface she is walking on.

Foley for Key Actions in Film:

They are many moments in my short film when Foley sounds will help with the visuals. For example, the sounds like the door opening, footsteps, or objects being placed down somewhere can be recreated and layered into the scene when I am editing. From the outside, the sounds may seem small but they help make the environment feel more natural and I planned from the start to record these sounds myself using everyday objects around my house and then later layer and sync them with the visuals during editing.

Using Foley Sounds To Support The Mood:

Foley sounds also supports and sets the mood for the audience in the short film for the scenes of Lena, Claire, and Micheal. Like, if a a moment in the short film feels tense or uncomfortable highlighting certain sounds like footsteps can make the moment feel more intense. On the other hand, softer sounds can help create a more calmer or more believable feeling scene.

How To Create Foley Sounds At Home

This video helped me understand more how simple movements and objects can be used to recreate the sounds for film scenes The same way how the video is pouring the water with a microphone right next to it, I will put a microphone right next to the cup when the pill is being dropped into the cup.

CCR- Planning

 Addressing Conventions:

Our short film blends drama and mystery, using some familiar drama conventions such as emotional beats, music to guide the tone, and realistic character interactions. However, it also challenges the typical mystery formula. Instead of focusing on solving a problem or revealing a hidden secret, the film explores the inner lives and relationships of Lena, Micheal, and Claire. This approach shifts the audience’s attention to their emotions, thought processes, and social dynamics

Representing Social Issues:

Each character carries a piece of what teens face today. Lena opens up to vulnerability in quiet moments, Micheal wrestles with personal boundaries in friendships, and Claire shows confidence while balancing what people expect from her. Together, they form a snapshot of how young people negotiate emotions, trust, and online pressures—little pieces of life that often go unseen.

Creative Approach:

For the CCR, I plan to use a video format in which I talk through these elements, referencing scenes and choices. I will focus on how our cinematography, sound design, and narrative structure reflect or disrupt conventions while communicating social messages. For example, close-up shots on Lena’s reactions or the use of natural sound for tense moments will illustrate how we convey emotion and psychological tension, rather than relying purely on plot twists.
Interview with filmmaker Reed Morano
I  am using this video as a reference point and inspiration for the style of my Creative Critical Post and the way I will structure my CCR video as well especially since I'm thinking of planning an interview style reflection where my decisions and and what your film represents will be discussed.

Making Sacrifices

We’ve been trying to find a time to reshoot parts of our film, but coordinating everyone’s schedules has been tricky. Especially, our actress for Micheal was always busy and was barely free so we then as a group decided to just have a girl play the boy and then 2 days before filming we found a guy to be our actor.

Texts with the actor of Micheal

Another issue which was also the biggest was the two characters Lena and Claire. We had actors that confirmed to doing it then one left the group chat and the other one never responded back to us int he group chat and would go through other people to tell us when she should was available. Resulting in me the sound designer and Fabiana the Director/Editor of our group to be the two actors in the film.

Shows one of our actors leaving
 without letting us know anything
Even though we faced a lot of challenges with some actors not being available or needing to be replaced, we were able to find solutions that kept the filming process on track. By adjusting schedules, using voice recordings, and focusing on the shots we could control, we managed to stay organized and productive. Despite the challenges, the filming went smoothly, and our team was working together perfectly, allowing us to capture the scenes we needed while keeping the energy positive and creative throughout the process.

Using Voice Recordings- Planning

Today, I had one of the actors send the voice recordings of their lines of the scenes we recorded this weekend. The original audio was a bit messy, with background sounds making some lines harder to hear clearly. Especially the actor who played Micheal, his voice was able to be easily not heard by the background noise at our location we filmed at so the use of voice recordings helps clean up the dialogue without affecting the performance.

All three actors havemultiple shots in front of their face causing the voice recordings to need to be in sync all the way to ensure it matches the tone, rhythm, and especially timing of the original sound. I sent them the clips from the film to guide their recordings, and then since I'm the sound editor I will then begin syncing the videos once I get the edited videos

If Lena or Claire’s audio doesn’t perfectly align with the footage, we can still use the original on-set recordings. While not ideal, it won’t disrupt the scene—especially since Micheal’s lines were the hardest to hear initially. My main goal is to make sure the interactions between the best friends and Micheal and Lena feel natural and seamless, so the scene flows smoothly and the audience can clearly follow their conversation.Even thought their is a plot twist towards the ending.

The type of makeup look needed to match each characters- Planning

 Why Makeup Matters for Characters:

Makeup is a very important part of building a characters identity in any film. It helps bring out a characters mood, personality, and even how the characters wants to express themselves to the audience watching. For my short film, the makeup choices for Lena, Claire, and Micheal will help the audience try to get an understanding of each character before speaking. The main goal in our film is for our character's to look natural while still reflecting each characters personality's

Lena's Makeup Look:

Lena’s makeup will be designed to match her kind and gentle personality. Because she is supposed to feel soft and sincere, the makeup look will stay very natural and minimal. This may include a smooth, lightweight base, a small amount of blush to add warmth to her face, and soft neutral shades on the eyes. Her lip color will remain subtle so the overall look does not feel heavy or dramatic. The purpose of Lena’s makeup is to highlight a youthful and approachable appearance, helping the audience immediately view her as warm, authentic, and easy to relate to.
My inspiration for Lena

Claire's Makeup Look:

Claire’s vibe will whisper self-assurance and careful curation. Her palette leans bolder than Lena’s, with shadows that speak in depth and lines that trace intention. Lips carry a stronger note, like punctuation on her presence. Every flick and shade is a quiet signal that she moves through the scene with purpose, setting her apart.

My inspiration for Claire

Micheal Makeup Look:

For Michael, the makeup will be very subtle and used primarily to ensure he appears natural on camera. In many films, male characters wear makeup mainly to adjust how their skin looks under strong lighting rather than to create a styled look. This might involve a small amount of foundation or powder to control shine and balance his skin tone during filming. The goal is to keep Michael’s look simple and believable, allowing the audience to pay attention to his personality and behavior instead of noticing the makeup itself.

Recording Clean Dialogue-Planning

The goal as sounds designer for my groups short film is to capture clear, crisp dialogue so that every word is easily understood by the audience without relying heavily on post-production audio editing. Clean dialogue will help our short film feel professional and keep viewers engaged.

1. Record at Quiet Locations

To capture clean dialogue, it’s important to select locations with minimal background noise. For indoor scenes, we’ll avoid areas near busy streets, appliances, or noisy neighbors. Outdoor scenes, like the park, will be planned for quieter spots and times of day with less activity. By choosing calm environments, we reduce the chance of unwanted sounds interfering with the actors’ lines.

2. Use Proper Microphones

I was considering on buying cheap mics that are still good and can be clipped on to clothing. The type and placement of microphones are crucial for clear audio. As shown down below, positioning them close enough to pick up voices clearly without appearing in the shot. Or my brothers microphone that connects to his camera but I will have to see.Proper microphone technique ensures that the dialogue is recorded at a consistent volume and quality, which will save time during editing.

K9 Dual professional microphones

3. Control Actor Movements

Actors movements can affect the clarity of dialogue, so we’ll rehearse scenes carefully to minimize unnecessary motion that could create mic rustle or uneven volume. Practicing lines beforehand will help actors deliver their lines naturally while staying in the “sweet spot” for the microphones. This balance of natural acting and technical awareness keeps the dialogue clear and professional.

4. Ensuring Sound Is Good During Shooting

I will be wearing headphones during filming to monitor audio in real-time. This allows me to catch issues such as background noise, mic handling sounds, or inconsistent volume immediately, so we can fix them before moving on to the next take. Real-time monitoring helps ensure that every scene is captured cleanly without surprises in post-production.

5. Record Multiple Takes

Recording each scene multiple times is essential for getting the best possible dialogue. I plan to film 2–3 takes of each line, which gives us flexibility during editing and ensures that at least one version is perfectly clear. Multiple takes also allow actors to improve their delivery while maintaining consistent audio quality throughout the scene.

6. Plan for ADR if Needed

Even with careful planning, some lines might need re-recording in a controlled environment through Automated Dialogue Replacement (ADR). This ensures that the final audio is clear and consistent, even if on-set conditions cause minor issues. ADR provides a safety net, allowing us to maintain high-quality dialogue without compromising the visuals or natural performances.

Our title: Lured in

The title of our group’s short film, Lured In, is a very obvious name that clearly hints at what the audience is about to see. It suggests that someone is being drawn into something, whether it’s a situation, a relationship, or a trap, which connects directly to the events in the film. Even though the meaning is straightforward, that’s what makes it effective. The title immediately builds suspense because it makes the audience wonder who is being lured and what they are being lured into. That sense of curiosity creates tension before the film even begins, making it a strong and fitting choice for our story.

A different production company that also uses short, simple, and impactful titles is Blumhouse Productions. Similar to A24, Blumhouse often chooses concise titles that immediately create intrigue and reflect the core theme of the film without revealing too much. Movies like Get Out, Insidious, and Split show how a single strong word or short phrase can build suspense and curiosity. Their titles are direct but mysterious, encouraging the audience to question what the film will explore while still setting a clear tone. This approach, like A24’s, proves that minimal and powerful titles can be very effective in capturing attention and building anticipation.

Examples of Blumhouse Productions films with suspenseful titles:

The Movie Get Out

The Movie Us

The movie The Purge

Choosing the right clothes for actors-Planning

 The importance of customs

Customs are more than just clothes the actors wear in films; they visual tell a person entire's personality and character development before any dialogue is even said. The way our actors dress for our short film will help the audience understand how they feel emotionally as a person and just who they are as a person. Choosing the right clothing for each different character is important for maintaining the authenticity in our short film as it does rely on emotions.

Character #1-Lena

Lena's character is more softer is supposed to give off a more softer vibe in the film. She has a gentle presence and carries herself in a sweet, calm full way. Lena shows her expressions mainly from her expressions, small gestures, and tones of voice. Me and my group was thinking Lena could wear more softer and innocent colors like pink and not darker ones that'll change what the audience think of her from the beginnings.

Things for me to keep in mind:

  • Wear Brighter/Lighter colors
  • Casual but still a clean look
  • Simple natural fabrics
Ella woods from legally blonde
Ella woods from legally blonde is my inspirations or what I want lena to dress in because she always wore softer colors especially pink and was a sweet and strong person at the same time, showing off her bubbly personality through her appearance

Character #2- Claire
Claire is the more natural andthe sneaky character as well. She presents herself as calm, reliable, and not to much in the way of anyone. Her sneakiness isn’t obvious — it’s shown through small actions, lingering glances, quiet decisions, and moments where she withholds information. This contrast between her natural, innocent appearance and her calculated behavior makes her character intriguing and slightly unpredictable, adding tension to the story without her ever having to raise her voice.

Things for me to keep in mind:
  • Slightly more relaxed styling
  • Sarker colored clothing
  • Natural or earth tones
Veronica from Riverdale
Veronica from Riverdale is kind of my inspiration for Claire because I do not wanter to be dressed in dark clothes exactly like that but definitely close to it. As Veronica was a very pretty girl with extremely sneaky tendencies.

Character #3- Michael
Michael is introduced as calm, charming, and emotionally intelligent — the type of guy who immediately feels safe and easy to talk to but then leads to the most dangerous person in lena's life. In conversations, he listens carefully, responds in a warm and reassuring way, and makes her feel seen and understood. He mirrors her softness at first, matching her energy and creating a sense of comfort.

Things to keep in mind:
  • Comfortable, everyday clothings
  • Natural colors
  • More relaxed styling
Beck from victorious

Beck from victorious was laid back and chill. The way he dressed didn't really fit his character but would fit my male character for my short film. This would be great as you cant'll really understand him fully on how he is through his clothes.

Location ideas-Planning

As production continues, its a need for use to finalize our 3 locations we will be filming at. The right location is very important when it comes down to setting the tone and mood of each scene and as a team we have discussed places we think is smart to film at.

Location #1- A Park

Betti Stradling Park

Betti Stradling Park is an ideal location for my groups short film park scene because it offers a large, spacious, open grassy area that is exactly what we need for a picnic setup, giving the two characters first time meeting each other in person enough plenty of space to interact with each other. The specific areas we will be suing to film the scene has very few people in that area, which means we will have very few interuptions, crowds to edit out, or background   noise. It's peaceful environment will make the scene more intimate and relaxed making it more a romantic vibe we want for the picnic as they are working on being girlfriend and boy friend.

Location #2- A house

Polaroid(2019)
For the house location, as a group we have not decided if we were going to use Kylies     bedroom or my bedroom. Although I did keep in mind that my room is mostly pink giving off a soft, innocent, a goofy vibe as it would be great choice for Lenas bedroom as her character is supposed to be innocent and nice. But Kylies bedroom has a more natural everyday atmosphere making you feel connected like you've been somewhere similar to it before. The lighting used in either bedrooms, should be natural keeping the room feeling realistic.

Location #3- Car

For the car location we will be most likely filming it in Kylies brothers car during the day time, which is good because it give us natural lighting perfect for out shots. This is when will use the reflecting mirror shot capturing close-up moments and reflections that add depth and emotion to the scene also an over the should shot again. We also choose daylight time because it would be with keeping the scene natural and clearly showing facial expressions. Also, some camera angles I was suggesting to tell my other group members was the dashboard, side window, and backseat

What Sound App is the best to use-Research

As a second time sound designer I know now that I need to find other sound apps to edit from way ahead of time now as each sound apps are designated to fulfill some needs better than others. Some apps are better for only the recording of audio, while others are more stronger with editing, sound effects, cleaning  up background noise, and layering sounds. When trying to choose the right app for what I need to be done, it makes what I have to do easier. I have also came to the conclusion that one app will most likely not be able to do everything I need resulting in me having to use more than 1 sound editing app.

Sound app #1-Audacity

Pros
  • Free, no cost at all
  • Beginner friendly for editing
  • Support audio formats like MP3,Wav, etc
  • Can be used in windows, MacOS, and Linux
Cons
  • Multi-track editing is not very strong
  • Limited advanced mixing tools
  • Rarely used for entire music production
Sound app #2- Moises

Pros
  • Separate any vocals and instruments in any sounds
  • Tempo and pitch changing tools
  • Free( basic stem separations(5 monthly) and limited tools
  • Chord detections and helps with memorizing
  • Can be used on iOS, Android's, and web/Desktops
Cons
  • Ai separation isn't the best
  • Good separation quality requires internet
  • Not a full Digital Audio Workstation as the free version limits me to mixing and editing things

Sound App #3- Adobe Premiere

Pros
  • Very powerful and profession tools for editing
  • Ai powered tools
  • Can only be used on Windows and Mac OS
  • Supports advanced exports, multi-track editing, and formats for harder projects
  • Free trial available
Cons
  • Not beginner friendly
  • Requires a powerful computer to run smoothly
  • May feel overwhelmed from the confusing layout at first
Which one will I use?
The two sound editing apps I will be using is Adobe Premire  as the editing on their comes out wonderful but it is more advanced when it comes to editing on there and the Moises app because its great for separating sound and it for free and I have already used Moises and know how easy it is to use.

How the credits will appear-Planning

For the credits of my groups short film, I want them to feel almost like a scene of the film and connected to the story instead of just white words on a black background as usual. Since me and my group has discussed already that in the scene in the beginning when the 2 friends are looking at the phone. We will show the phone as part of a scene making it feel realistic for the audience and then the credits should appear on the phones screen towards the ending similar to scrolling on the phone, like notifications.

                    Option1

My other option I feel me and my group would do it the credits actually showing on the screen as the two characters on the phone it and the credits slowly goes up as if their scrolling them but their really not

The effect it will have on the audience:

  • Make the audience feel more connected
  • Makes the credits more interesting to watch
  • Keeps the audience engaged
  • Allowing them to feel the sense of flow

When applying this to my film:
  • I need to ensure the writing is clear and readable text on the phone screen
  • As sound designer the perfect background music to match the scene
  • Make sure the right lighting is used on the phone and on set to make sure the phone screen is shown
  • Remember to have smooth timing so the credit don not look rushed

The Importance of Clean Dialogue in a Film Opening-Research

As it is my second time around making a short film, now I know how important it is for the story, tone, and characters to be introduced properly by the film opening. A main part of opening film is clean dialogue, if the dialogue is not clear enough for the audience to understand what is being said by the characters there is a chance of them to feel disconnected from the film. As sound designer for my group's film I will make sure clean dialogue is a main focus.

Why Clean Dialogue Matters

Lays the foundation of the story
  • Most important information is in the opening scene, like conflicts and character goals
  • If the dialogue is unclear the audience will be lost from the start
Example:
In the movie Inglorious Basterds (2009) the opening scene is the characters conversating and the tension was built through the dialogue only with the pauses in between the words and the clear audio letting the audience catch the hidden threats

Keeps Audience Engagement
  • If the dialogue is not clean causing the audience to strain to hear, it'll make them aggravated
  • Keeping the audience attention to the stories emotional cues
Example:
In the movie Social Network (2010) from the beginning it starts with a very fast conversation with quick dialogue and if the audience couldn't listen to what was being said they would be lost the rest of the movie as that is what builds the rest of it.

Makes the character more believable
  • Muffled dialogue may make the characters less convincing
  • Voice recorded properly makes scene more real and impactful for the audience
Example:
In the movie Quiet Place (2018), the sudden moments of spoken dialogue are precisely recorded a certain way making the audience feel the vulnerability of the characters from it's little words being said
Write better dialogue in 8 minutes
Takeaways/Tips:
  • Every character should have it's own different sound based on the background and personality
  • Make sure the dialogue said by a character also reveals that character
  • Break up the dialogue with pauses or distractions
  • Add reactions from characters
  • Avoid characters in conversation oversharing information
  • Make sure every word said serves a purpose

How this will be applied to my film:
For my groups opening scene, dialogue is extremely important because it introduces our two characters, the main conflict, and the relationship between the two. Eventually, building the rest of the story. I plan to make sure the audio is recorded and edited properly for clear and balanced dialogue. With e doing this it will make a powerful first thought of the characters by the audience allowing out short film to be more realistic and great.

Understanding how Sound affects Emotions-Research

In our short films opening, the sound will be one of the most important roles when setting the tone, mood, and the audiences expectations. Sound is one for he most powerful elements used in films to control how the audience feels and reacts towards what their seeing. By understanding how sound affects emotions, I can make the audience feel how the characters are feeling in the moment like scared, happy, uneasy, or the tension between characters.

Different types of sounds and their impact

Non-Diegetic Sound

*Sounds which can only be heard by the audience watching*

  • High pitched strings can give a sense of fear or tension between characters
  • Slow and soft music can give a sense of romance, sadness, or a reflection on a character
  • Minimal Piano can give a sense of loneliness and mystery

Diegetic Sound

*Sound which the characters can hear as well*

  • Echoing foot steps usually makes the character feel like their in danger or isolated
  • Silence after a loud noise is usually a scene when it shocking for a character/ characters
  • Busy street sounds usually makes the audience feel the realism of the scene
Sound Contrast

  • Calm music while a violent scene gives a disturbing effect to viewers
  • Calm ambient sound and Rising threat making the audience know danger is coming
  • Diegetic sound slowly replacing music taking a shift in emotion

How I will apply this to my film:

As sound designer, sound is what shapes the audiences emotional experience especially from the beginning. I will apply sound contrast to make the audience feel engaged from the opening scene. I plan to combine calm music with a violent, tense, or mysterious scene to build suspense making it known to the audience something is bad about the happen. I will even use moment of silence before the more important sounds to make the key moments more impactful. Lastly, by carefully mixing the  non-diegetic and diegetic sounds I will establish the tone and genre of my film more successfully

Writing the script-Planning

Writing the Script

Our group has made a lot of progress on writing our script, and we currently have majority of it completed. While not all of the dialogue is fully written out, we do have the entire plot planned out and agreed upon on as a group. This has made the writing process easier since everyone knows how the story is supposed to unfold. Even though my role in this project is sound designer, I made sure that everyone's ideas when writing the script was included and represented in the short film than just one persons perspective.
The word document we all share
and put our ideas on for the script

As we move forward, I need to have more conversations with my group members about the tone and mood that we want to convey in certain scenes. One important scene is when Micheal is encouraging Lena to drink the drink he spiked and depending on how the actor delivers his lines, the scene could come across as strange or forceful which is not what we want. Our goal is to for the interaction to look natural so that the audience isn't obtaining the wrong thing. Another idea I came up with that I will tell my group next class is when the over the shoulder shot of Micheal calling Claire happens, instead of it saying Claire as the caller id it says wifey or something that lets the audience know they are a couple.

How Claire's contact should pop up when he
goes to call her instead of with a name only
it could be with hearts, my queen, or bae

Early on in the planning process, my group and I decided that Veronica would be the one to suggest Lena to use a dating app. This choice was intentional because it sets up to later reveal that Claire was involved in the plan with Micheal from the very beginning. By adding in that detail early in the story, it helps the audience look back and realize claire's actions were not just random. Our group coming up with this helped strengthen the plot giving the audience a clearer understanding of how the characters are connected and how it was a conspiracy all along. We also said that the credits will be done showing after the scene of Claire showing the dating app to Lena.

My Shot Ideas - Planning

Shot Ideas

Our group has spent time discussing shot ideas for our film, we shared some of our different visual approaches and building off each other's suggestions. We discussed the opening scene, talking about how it should look and what shots would be best fit to introduce our story. While I did come up with a shot for the opening which they agreed on with me, which is the first shot idea below . We are still open to changes as we continue to build on our script.

Idea #1

At the very beginning in the opening scene I feel like it should be introduced with a dolly shot moving forward slowly from down the hallway or at an angle to see Lena complaining and Claire comforting her. As that Is happening you will hear their conversation start off at a lower level and gradually become louder the closer we get to them.

First example of a shot I envisioned

Idea #2

While Lena is complaining about never finding love, I envisioned Claire getting her phone to show Lena a dating app she's heard of before. This type of shot is called an over-the-shoulder shot as it will be a shot taken over the two of them as Claire shows her the app then eventually Lena requesting a guy she feels is her perfect match.

2nd example of a shot I envisioned

Idea #3

Another shot idea I had in mind was a scene showing Michael through the car mirror, known as a reflection shot. the shot would be at an angle to show Michael grinning/smiling after his plan went. This shot also would bring laughter for the audience watching our short film as well.

3rd example of a shot I envisioned

What tools to use to create certain sounds- Research

This film that my group and I will be making is going to have the best soundever achieved because I feel much more prepared and confident in the sound design process. I now have a clear understanding of what tools I need to use and how to plan for important sounds ahead of time.Unlike the last film I made where sound editing was rushed and done in just one night not because of me, but this time I’ll be working on the audio throughout the process, from recording to post-production. Being more organized and intentional with sound will allow the film to feel more polished, detailed, and impactful overall. I have been watching many different YouTube videos and this one down below stood out the most to me.

Recording Sound for film

The information I learned from this video:

On set, the most important hardware includes microphones like shotgun mics (long, directional mics often used on boom poles to grab clear dialogue without too much background noise) and lavalier mics (small clip-on mics attached to actors when movement is expected) as well as audio recorders that capture the sound independently of the camera. These tools help record dialogue and ambient noises that will be used and cleaned up later.

Once the sound is recorded, software tools like Digital Audio Workstations (DAWs) are used in post-production to edit, mix, and enhance the audio. A popular example is Pro Tools, which editors use to balance levels, remove noise, add effects like EQ and compression, and blend sound effects with dialogue and music for the final film soundtrack.

Here are some pros and cons I should keep in mind if I chose to buy any of these equipment

Pros:

  • Shotgun microphones can capture clean, focused audio from actors without picking up too much background noise.

  • Lavalier mics allow actors to move freely without losing dialogue clarity.

  • Field recorders let you record high-quality sound separately from the camera for more control in post.

  • DAW software like Pro Tools gives you detailed control over editing and mixing all audio elements together.

Cons:

  • Shotgun mics require skilled operators and careful placement to avoid noise from wind or handling.

  • Lavalier mics can sometimes pick up clothing rustle or sound unnatural if placed poorly.

  • Field recorders and DAWs have a learning curve, especially for beginners in sound editing.

How will this be applied to my film:

Since our film will be doing scenes where specific sounds need emphasised, like something being dropped into a drink or a car gear shifting. I will need to think about both capturing quality on set and enhancing sounds in post-production. On set, using a shotgun mic on a boom can help record natural ambience and dialogue with less noise, while a lavalier mic can ensure clear sounds from actors while they move. After filming, bringing the audio into a DAW like Pro Tools Website it lets you enhance specific sound effects, like exaggerating the sound of a drop hitting a drink or tuning the car gear shift audio so it feels more realistic for your audience. Using foley techniques manually adding sound effects that match movements can make those subtle sounds stand out in your final mix as well.

Setting a Schedule-Planning

Setting a schedule has been one of the best things our group is doing because it helps everyone feel prepared and not left behind, especially since we still need to start working on our production proposal as of this week and have it done latest by the 15 or 16th of February since the latest to turn it in is the 19th. By clearly planning out what needs to be done and when, it reduces stress and keeps us focused instead of scrambling at the last minute. Rather than just sharing an online document with due dates, we physically wrote everything down on the pink packet we were given in class, which makes the plan feel more real and harder to ignore. This approach helps keep everyone accountable, and my group also makes sure to keep everyone updated so the whole group always knows what’s going on and what we’re working toward.

Choosing Actors-Planning

Our group film requires three actors in total, but we have not officially secured any of them yet. We plan to have all of the roles confirmed by next week so we can move forward with filming and rehearsals. Although casting is still in progress, we do have a backup person in mind to play the male role in case our first choice is unavailable. This helps ensure that our production schedule will stay on track even if changes need to be made.

 Character #1- Lena

At the moment, I do not have a specific actor in mind for the role of Lena. Since Lena is the main character, this casting choice is especially important because she is meant to be portrayed as sweet, kind, and largely unaware of what is happening around her. The actor who takes on this role needs to clearly communicate Lena’s innocence and naïveté in a believable way. It’s also important that the actor can appear jolly and somewhat clueless so the audience can easily understand Lena’s personality and perspective throughout the film.If I were to get a known actor, I could see Amanda Seyfried playing the part.

Amanda Seyfried from the movie mean girls

 Character #2- Claire

I already have someone in mind to play the role of Claire, since her character needs to be portrayed as kind, friendly, and trustworthy at first, before eventually being revealed as the betraying friend. The actor I’m considering is very strong in her acting abilities and does a great job showing emotional shifts, which is especially important for Claire’s character change from trustworthy to disloyalty . She is particularly effective at playing darker or more “evil” roles toward the end of a story, making the betrayal feel believable and impactful. I also feel confident in this choice because she was one of the actors in my last film, so I am familiar with her range and know she can handle the complexity of this role well. If I were to get a known actor, I could see Camila Mendes playing the part.

 Character #3- Micheal

Similar to the actor I was thinking of for Claire, I already have someone in mind to play the role of Micheal, since his character is meant to come across as sweet and nice at the beginning before slowly being revealed as evil toward the end. The actor I’m thinking of asking is very strong in his acting skills, especially because he has a background in theater, which shows in his ability to express emotion and handle complex character changes. He was also one of the actors in my last film, so I know he is capable of delivering a strong performance. However, there are a few pros and cons I’ve noticed: while his experience and talent are major strengths, he is a very busy person, and he also doesn’t fully match the physical look I originally imagined for the character. If I were to get a known actor, I could see Jordan  Calloway playing the part.
