How will I create an even better footstep sound effect

In the film me and my group choose which is the "This is Sparta" scene from the movie 300. the sound effects that I will have to learn to create is the footsteps, swords clang, and armor movement.  

In the video it informs you about the Do's and Don'ts when recording a footstep sound effect. You should not wear any clothing made out of nylon, polyester, and vinyl. Also, wearing baggy clothes may flap around causing a different sound to clash with the footsteps sound. You should not be wearing any jewelry and tape down laces and zips. The positioning of the microphone affects what the sound will come out to be like if it is too far away it will cut out some of the details but  if it's too close you risk hitting the microphone and you may capture more of the toe then the heel.
