Filming Challenges & Solutions-Reflection

During the filming process of our short film, my group faced several challenges that required us to think quickly and find a solution right then and their.. Even though we planned our shots and created a storyboard ahead of time, some things did not go exactly as expected once we started filming. One of the biggest difficulties we experienced involved camera angles and the lighting outside, especially during our second day of filming. Despite these obstacles, our group worked together to find solutions that allowed us to continue filming and stay on track.

Camera Angles

One of the main challenges we encountered happened on Day 2 of filming when we began setting up our camera angles for a few of the scenes. While the shots looked good in our storyboard, recreating them in the real filming location turned out to be more difficult than we anticipated. The location we were filming at had no lights their its was extremely dark making the quality of the video worse.

Example of the quality looking bad

Because of this, some of our angles did not clearly show the characters the way we wanted it to. At times, parts of the background or other elements in the scene distracted from the focus on the actors. We also had to make sure the actors’ movements matched the camera positioning, which also made it a bit more challenging for the cinematographer.

Solution: Adjusting the Camera Placement

To solve this issue, our group decided to adjust our camera placement and simplify some of the angles. Instead of strictly following the storyboard, we did try and experiment with different camera positions we did do angles that worked better in the lighting we had because some shots that were mean't to be far away was did not come out right.

We also communicated closely with the actors to help them adjust their positions slightly so the shots would look more balanced. By working together and being flexible, we were able to improve the look of some of the scenes not all and continue filming without falling too far behind schedule.

Working Together as a Team

Another important part of solving our filming challenges was teamwork. Everyone in the group contributed ideas when problems came up, and we discussed different solutions before deciding what would work best. This collaborative approach helped us stay positive and focused even when things became stressful.

Filmmaking often requires quick problem-solving, and our group learned that being open to change can make the production process smoother.

Conclusion

Although we experienced challenges with camera angles and lighting during our filming process, especially on Day 2, we were able to overcome them by adjusting our camera placement to best of the cinematographers ability and working together as a team. These experiences helped us learn more about the realities of filmmaking and the importance of flexibility on set. In the end, the challenges we faced actually helped improve our problem-solving skills and strengthened our collaboration as a group.
